According to Labrys, about 45% of the blocks on the Ethereum network are validated by MEV bots that monitor compliance with US sanctions. The company introduced the MEV Watch tool to detect these bots.
Labrys CEO Lachan Feeney reported that in various reports, the number of transactions censored by the Mining Value Extraction Protocol ( MEV) Flashbots, counts 25%. However, this is already outdated data, and the indicator is changing. This is because many Ethereum validators using MEV flashbots are based in the US. Therefore, they strictly censor certain transactions in the created blocks, especially transactions where the Tornado Cash cryptocurrency mixer is involved. Feeney noted that validators are financially motivated to use the MEV software, choosing transactions to generate maximum revenue.
“The problem is that validators get paid to do this. Therefore, if they want to earn more money, they simply turn on this feature and increase their income,” explained the head of Labrys.
On September 28, Labrys launched the MEV Watch tool. It informs validators which MEV bots are complying with restrictions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC). The tool aims to raise awareness among those who are unaware that by using the centralized MEV software they are contributing to network censorship.
